III / Being Authentic / New Year, New Me edition

In my life I can recall many times in witch I have felt like a poser. An imitator of some kind. I have played so many roles in my life. A good girl, a grade-A student, then also a school skipping teenager, a caring sister, a worried girlfriend, a dis-satisfied customer… And the list could go on forever. I worked many years in a clothing store and though I actually loved my work the most days, there were some days that my smile was more like an accessory than an expression of an genuine emotion. I have went along to parties I didn't feel like going, stayed at a relationship when my heart had told me ages ago to move on and gossiped about a friend just to feel horrible afterwards. There have been times in my life in witch I have witnessed something or heard something that I wish I could have taken a stand and said something. Instead of swallowing my opposition and staying silent and as result not feeling true to my highest self.

But then in a way aren’t we all playing a role? At all times? Most moments of our lives we portray a different image. Sometimes it might be of an selfless mother, it might be an encouraging co-worker, the trustworthily bus driver, struggling artist or a lonely teenager. Our being is just a portraying of ourself in a certain time in our lives. We might have many roles even in one day. Is that in-authenticity? Or just the many layers of you that you embody at each moment to your best ability?

How would you describe yourself? Why would you choose those exact words?

As the year is closing, we set our sights ahead. On what we might become now that we are given this once in a year golden opportunity to recreate ourselves. We make resolutions for the new year. The new me that we see in our minds. It’s nice.

But what I would like you to remember is that you that choice every day of your life. Use the new year as a reminder of that and go back to that feeling every time you feel the need. You have that option for growth and evolvement each and every moment that you are breathing. At every moment you choose your words, your reactions, your direction. This is why we need to stay present. Even after tomorrow. You have the choice to choose the company you surround yourself with, the way you want to spend the little time you have waking up, the way you view and treat the people in your life, including yourself. Keep asking yourself questions. Be curious. And if your answers don't make you feel good - change them. What makes you your highest self? Embody that.

This year promise to show up for yourself. Play the best part you can. From your heart. And remember to check-in from time to time. What is still serving your purpose and what is not. You are the creative director of your own life. It's just a game you play together with your imagination. Your life is a show starring you. So make a rough guide. Write, map, vision, meditate, show gratitude. Whatever feels most natural to you. And from there on, you can improvise.
